Welcome to Sunbury West Primary School, where every child is known, valued and supported to flourish within a caring and connected community.
At Sunbury West, we pride ourselves on fostering a strong sense of belonging, pride and excellence. We are committed to nurturing a culture of endeavour and achievement across all areas of school life. Our teaching and learning programs provide rich and engaging opportunities for every student to learn to their full potential, with consideration given to individual learning styles and needs. We aim to deliver an innovative and comprehensive curriculum that prepares students for life in a 21st-century world, while also supporting the development of confidence, independence and positive social skills. Our motto, “Together we learn. Together we grow.”, reflects the value we place on strong partnerships between school and home.
Sunbury West Primary School has an enrolment of approximately 230 students from Foundation to Year 6. Our teaching teams work collaboratively to ensure consistent and high-quality learning experiences across the school. Our dedicated staff are passionate about lifelong learning and actively engage in ongoing professional learning to continually improve their practice.
Our programs are tailored to meet the needs of all learners, with a strong focus on Literacy and Numeracy. An inquiry approach to our integrated curriculum encourages student voice and agency, allowing students to actively contribute to their learning and explore topics relevant to their stage of development.
Students also participate in specialist programs including Visual Arts, Physical Education, STEM and Japanese. Digital literacy is embedded across the school, with students having access to laptops, iPads and interactive technology. Year 5 and 6 students have opportunities to participate in the LEGO League Challenge with other schools in the Sunbury network. Performing Arts opportunities include outsourced dance programs, such as the Wakakirri Story Dance Challenge and the Kinect2Dance program.
Student wellbeing is central to everything we do. We implement a School-Wide Positive Behaviour approach to support engagement and behaviour, ensuring clear expectations and a supportive environment for all students. The Respectful Relationships program helps students develop resilience, confidence and healthy interpersonal skills. Sunbury West was recognised as a lead school in this area and continues to support other local schools. We also partner with The Resilience Project, promoting emotional literacy through gratitude, empathy and mindfulness.
Our school values are, To Respect. To Belong. To Strive. These guide our daily interactions and are inherent to our school culture. Students are further supported by wellbeing staff through the National Student Wellbeing Program and the Mental Health in Primary Schools initiative.
Following a $10.5 million capital works upgrade, our school now features modern learning spaces including refurbished classrooms, an art and science wing, a new administration building and redeveloped outdoor play areas, all designed to support engaging and flexible learning.
We warmly welcome parent and community involvement. Our Friends of Sunbury West (FOSW) group and School Council play an important role in strengthening school life and supporting our students and families. We are also grateful for the many volunteers who assist with activities such as the canteen, camps and excursions.
Our door is always open, and we encourage you to contact us if you have any questions or would like to learn more about our school. We look forward to welcoming you and your family to the Sunbury West community.
Kind regards,
Inga Wilson
