General Information:
SCHOOL HOURS The school day is organised has follows:
ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS (PREP) Children who are to be admitted must be at least five years of age on or before April 30th of the year of their starting school. Proof of age and a School Immunisation Certificate must be produced. ABSENCE AND ATTENDANCERegular attendance is important as it helps school progress, social adjustment and the development of dependability. However, home is the place for a sick child. A sick child cannot work well and may pass his/her illness onto other children and staff. In cases of emergency or short notice, parents who want to collect their children must call at the office and collect an authorisation notice. Teachers cannot let a child go without authority from the office. DRESS CODE POLICYThe wearing of school uniform is compulsory at Sunbury West. The uniform is predominately bottle green in colour, with secondary colours of red and white. For parents convenience our School operates a Uniform Shop, please check with the school office for opening times. SUNSMART POLICY It is school policy that all children wear Sunsmart hats during Term 1 and 4 when outdoors. Hats need to be broad brimmed or of the legionnaire type in school colours (red, white or bottle green). When supporting this school policy, please ensure that any discussion, which may take place with your child, focuses on the issue of personal safety in regard to sun protection. Children who are not wearing a Sunsmart hat will not be allowed to play in the open during recesses or participate in outdoor activities. Order forms to purchase Sunsmart hats from the school’s Uniform Shop are available from the office.
Parking outside the schoolThere are parking restrictions in streets outside the school and school carparks are for the use of staff only. These restrictions are for the safety of the children so it is important to observe them carefully. School Crossings JUNIOR SCHOOL COUNCIL Each year a number of children (from Grades 5 and 6) are elected by their class peers to be members of the Junior School Council. These children then meet on a regular basis, discussing issues raised by their grades concerning the school. This gives the children input into the running of the school. HOUSE SYSTEM Children in Grade 3 -6 are placed in one of the following houses for the arrangement of some sporting and class activities. PARENT/TEACHER COMMUNICATION If you wish to discuss any aspect relating to your child’s welfare and learning progress, please contact your child’s teacher to arrange an appointment at a mutually convenient time. Appointments help to minimise interruptions to the grade’s learning programs. One of the busiest times for teachers is just prior to the commencement of the school day. If you continue to feel worried about your child’s welfare, or would prefer to talk to the Principal, or the Assistant Principal, please make an appointment through the school office. PARENT/TEACHER INTERVIEWS AND REPORTS We consider it essential that the school and home work together in their educational endeavours for the child, and Parent/Teacher Interviews provide a forum for this to occur. Formal interviews occur at the beginning and middle of the year or they can be arranged by parents or teachers at any other time of the year. Written reports are provided at the middle and end of the year. |
